RIDGELAND, Mississippi, August 23, 2022 – Two non-profits soon will receive support for their community efforts thanks to HORNE and the HORNE Community Foundation. HORNE team members recently voted for Youth Town in Pinson, Tennessee, as the winner of $50,000 with the Mobile SPCA in Mobile, Alabama, coming in second with an award of $10,000.
Youth Town is a licensed, 52-bed residential facility for adolescents ages 13-18, and its approach focuses on the ways teenagers respond to treatment for substance abuse and mental health issues. The facility opened in 1962. Youth Town uses an adventure-based campus layout, evidence-based therapies and a faith-based approach to treat its residents.
The Mobile SPCA opened in 1885 and is a non-profit humane society and one of the oldest continuously operating charitable organizations in Alabama. It is a no-kill, limited intake shelter that offers an adoption guarantee for every healthy or treatable animal that is brought to the facility. The Mobile SPCA places or transports about 1,200 dogs and 500 cats annually. The group helps people in our community with about 2,500 spays and neuters and almost 100 emergency vet visits annually.
As part of its 60th anniversary celebration, HORNE employees will vote on non-profits nominated from six regions where the firm serves in the U.S. mainland, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The foundation, on behalf of HORNE, will award $60,000 every week for six weeks, for a total of $360,000.
